  • WHEN beautiful Jacobeth and Enock got married in court in September 2008, they promised each other a big wedding.

Although Enock has been dead for more than two years, the Mamelodi widow met her commitment to the love of her life on Saturday. “I loved my man so much. We could not wait for our big day. I just felt deep inside that I should fulfil the desire we both cherished so much,” said Jacobeth Tshabalala.
Jacobeth (31) did not walk down the aisle alone as a family friend
stood in for Enock. The pastor prayed while placing the ring on her finger, the ring Enock gave her before he died. A wedding cake decorated with the names of the bride and groom was cut at the wedding reception held at the bride’s rural home at Ga-Maisela at India Village in Sekhukhune, Limpopo. Enock got sick and died in March 2011 and was buried in his hometown in Free State. Gold-embossed invites were sent out to friends and relatives in January, giving no indication the groom was dead.

More than 200 people from the community attended the lavish reception that lasted from 10am on Saturday until the early hours of Sunday morning. A cow and a goat were slaughtered for the occasion and women in traditional dress danced and ululated. The families of both Jacobeth and Enock welcomed the wedding. The man who stood in for Enock, Morris Digauto (22), said: “This is a spiritual wedding as Jacobeth fulfilled the wishes and desire of her late husband and herself.”

An elder in the family, Maleke Mpaketsane (65,) said Jacobeth and Enock told him that if one of them died before the big wedding, the one who stayed behind would have to fulfil their dream. “This is why there was a celebration,” he said. daily sun
